  • Fencing crops against hippopotamus

    Crop raiding by hippopotamus is the greatest source of human- wildlife conflict in the Gambia, especially in Central River and Upper River Region where they mostly raid rice fields, leaving the local people in anger and frustration. UNDP successfully supported a consultation process which led to the construction of a fence to resulting in the rice fields being protected by ramping hippos.
