Poverty Reduction & MDGsUNDP's Gambia Employment Programme (GAMJOBS) project organized a launching ceremony of the Country Poverty and Employment Study Report on Thursday 22nd January 2009, at the Paradise Suites Hotel. The Poverty and Employment Study was conducted in 2007 and validated in July 2008, with a view to examine economic growth trends, origins and components of gross domestic growth, the structure of the economy and factors underpinning economic growth. The objective is to provide policy perspectives to enhance national planning towards achieving national development aspirations, through the development and implementation of pro poor economic and sector policies and strategies as well as developing the capacity of labour forces to exploit economic opportunities accruing from growth. The purpose of the launching ceremony is to disseminate the findings to a wider audience.
UNDP Annual Programme Review Meeting successfully
ended on Wednesday 25th April at the Corinthia Atlantic Hotel. The
APRM provides a forum to review the previous year’s Results
and together with Government endorse the key areas and targets for
programme intervention in 2008. The Seventh Roundtable Conference on the
Poverty Reduction Strategy–PRSPII – for The Gambia
was held at EXCEL Conference Centre, London on the 5-6 February
2008 under the Theme: TAKING A DECISIVE STEP TOWARDS THE MDGS
IN THE The Government of the Gambia with the support of
the UNDP is organizing a Round Table Conference (RTC) with its development
partners, to be held in London, United Kingdom, on the 5th and 6th
February 2008. |
